Organics Unlimited’s Five Points to Drive Sales: Organic vs. Conventional

Organics Unlimited’s Five Points to Drive Sales Organic vs Conventional

Capitalize on the difference between organic versus conventional bananas; this is one of the Five Points to Drive Sales. As one of the most valuable tools in your arsenal, pushing the organic benefits will truly place the advantage on your produce. Many consumers know of organic just by name and not by facts. Help your customers understand the difference and it will help you increase your organic sales.

There are many options to work with when you want to target new customers to go organic. Aside from sharing the difference between organic versus conventional you can also promote the health benefits, provide taste tests or even communicate the positive environmental factors of sustainability.

GMO is a huge topic; a subject more and more people in society are looking to avoid. With organic, your shoppers do not have to worry about genetically modified foods or worry about what harmful chemicals were placed on them. Highlight the organic label to make your customers more aware of what they are buying. Putting up signage will also help.

Organic also helps the future. Inform everyone that comes into your store that when buying organic bananas they are protecting the environment and creating a more sustainable place to live. Studies have shown that pesticides can affect the way we live, increasing the risk of cancer and decreasing fertility. By increasing organic sales, we are decreasing the amount of chemicals in the air which can cause poor health for future generations.

Prove to your customers that organic tastes better. Without all of the chemicals, your customers will be choosing a better, more flavorful banana. Provide taste tests to share the difference. Your customers will never know unless they try, and why not give them a free sample?

Conventional Organic
Apply chemical fertilizers to promote plant growth. Apply natural fertilizers, such as manure or compost, to feed soil and plants.
Spray insecticides to reduce pests and disease. Use beneficial insects and birds, mating disruption or traps to reduce pests and disease.
Use herbicides to manage weeds. Rotate crops, till, hand weed or mulch to manage weeds.
Give animals antibiotics, growth hormones and medications to prevent disease and spur growth. Give animals organic feed and allow them access to the outdoors. Use preventive measures — such as rotational grazing, a balanced diet and clean housing — to help minimize disease.

Everyone may not think about these topics when shopping. Providing these opportunities for knowledge is something your customers will thank you for and will increase ROI when your organic sales improve.

Organic vs. Conventional  is one of five topics we touch upon that will help you grow your organic banana sales. Please read about our other Five Points to Drive Sales which includes Nutritional Benefits, Strategic Displays, Convenience of Purchase, and Alternative Usage.
